Speaker(s)

Honorable Warren J. Granville

Warren J. Granville was appointed to the Maricopa County Superior Court by Governor Jane Hull in December, 1999.  Judge Granville served two years in Family Court and has been with the Criminal Division since then.

In January, 2008, Criminal Presiding Judge Barbara Mundell designated Judge Granville as the Capital Case Management Judge. Since then, he has presided over more capital trials than any other Arizona judge.  Judge Granville has taught fellow judges across the state in presiding over a capital trial and has mentored fellow judges in the Criminal Division in handling a Criminal case load. In June, 2010, Presiding Judge Norm Davis appointed Judge Granville Associate Criminal Presiding Judge, where he served until March, 2013.

Before being appointed, Judge Granville had been with the Attorney General’s Office for 22 years where he handled a wide variety of complex criminal issues - murder, securities, commercial bribery, fraud, corruption and hazardous waste cases.  He was named as the Attorney General’s Office’s Prosecutor of the Year in 1993 and 1997.  His fields of expertise included Victim Rights, grand jury, securities, and wiretap issues.  He did both appellate and trial work, appearing before the Arizona Supreme Court, both divisions of the Arizona Court of Appeals, and in the Superior Courts of eight of Arizona’s fifteen counties.

Judge Granville graduated from Florida State University in 1975 and Arizona State University’s College of Law in 1979.
