Why Do Lawyers Hire An Expert?

Khodadad (Ko) Sharif, Esq. will be discussing why lawyers hire an expert. A lawyer must also learn from his/her own expert, be able to communicate with his/her expert using the terms of art in the expert's area of expertise, and communicate about the case so that there are no surprises. Don't just hire a "hired gun," but hire an EXPERT.

Khodadad (Ko) Sharif, Esq.

Khodadad (Ko) Sharif, Esq. has been litigating since 1997, when he first became a member of the State Bar of California. His litigation experience has taken him from Family Court to Civil Court and to the Criminal Court. His job as a lawyer is to find the facts and to present them to the court, in a format that is admissible. In cases where many facts

require expert testimony, his reliance on expert testimony becomes necessary and indispensable. Mr. Sharif has worked with many experts. He has heavily litigated in the construction defect area of the law. He has experience working with geologists, framers, concrete guys, roofers, electricians, plumbers, contractors, and others. Mr. Sarif has worked with financial experts such as CPAs, dental experts (Dr. Norman "Skip" Sperber) involving bite marks, psychologists, CWS, and most recently with document examiner Mike Wakshull. Equally, he has challenged so-called experts introduced by the opposing side.

Mr. Sarif has been a volunteer judge Pro tem with the San Diego Superior Court since 2007. In this capacity, he has heard Small Claims and Traffic Trials in San Diego and Chula Vista. He is also a volunteer Fee Arbitrator with the San Diego County Bar Association. He has arbitrated many fee disputes between client and counsels. He also has coached the High School Mock Trial Team at Otay Ranch High for 5 years and has succesfully had many students win awards in their respective mock trial presentations.

He is a member of AMERICAN INNS OF COURT, Louis M. Welsh. He is also a member of Delta Theta Phi and its past Marshal of the Supreme Senate.

Mr. Sarif graduated from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and earned his J.D. in 1995 (with Certificate in International Legal Process). While attending law school, he attended summer programs at Cambridge University U.K., Gonville and Caius College and Universidad Autonoma De Baja California. He finished his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University; earning his degree in Political Science with minor in Philosophy in 1992.
