What happens before you are called as an expert? Learn about the behind-the-scenes from attorney Ian Fraser-Thomson who will review the process he goes though in setting up the defense of a case, and how an expert can prep themselves. Ian Fraser-Thomson will go in-depth about the role insurance companies have in expert selection and the case itself including who owns the hiring process of experts. Additionally, he will review expert witness skills such as communication, report writing, best-practices for trial testimony and preparation for depositions.


Ian Fraser-Thomson of Cesari, Werner and Moriarty is a seasoned litigator with over 55 jury trials on his resume. Ian was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California in 2008. He is a member of the American Board of Trial advocates (ABOTA). He is Martindale-Hubble AV rated. He received his B.A. from the University of Oregon in 1973, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, followed in 1976 by his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1976. Since he joined CWM in 1977, he has focused on the practice areas of insurance bad faith, extra-contractual litigation, landlord-tenant disputes as well as complex commercial and business litigation matters. He makes his home in Sausalito with his artist wife, Linda Marie and son J.R.
